Educators started their career journey with a passion to make a difference in this world by assisting learners. We learn tools to continue to unfold critical thinking skills, reduce anxiety, and build confidence. A child's success to reach their full academic potential is our commitment as we have evolved and continuously educate ourselves with up-to-date/current materials. Each generation learns differently with different learning styles and we prepare to assist each child in their educational journey.

Services & Pricing

Level 1: Kindergarten Prep $80 per hour

Kindergartners have such enthusiasm to learn about the world around them and how it works. Your child will be prepared for the kindergarten readiness entrance exams, specifically the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA) that measures the student’s knowledge, skills, and behaviors in four learning domains: language & literacy, mathematics, physical well-being, motor skills development, and social foundations. With our individualized programs for your child, your child will successfully transition into an unfamiliar environment of the kindergarten classroom.

Our kindergarten prep will help your child learn:

Level 2: Grade K-10 Tutoring $85 per hour

After initial assessment, we provide a heavy focus on academic achievement and social/emotional readiness for each grade level using evidence based and research-based curriculum. A few programs we use are: Reading Mastery, Reading Milestones, Expressive Writing Programs, and Touch Math, just to name a few. These programs are direct instructional programs that are highly structured and break apart the lessons into small teachable parts.

Addition to assisting students to stay on track in the classroom, our tutors may also provide supplemental curriculum. These provide enhanced knowledge and skills in agreed subjects that will allow each student to explore in a 1:1 environment. Gifted children appreciate the opportunities to learn at an accelerated rate.

Level 3: Special Needs Services $100 per hour

At MICAA, our therapy tutors are BCBAs (Board Certified Behavior Analysts) and RBTs (Registered Behavior Technicians). They hold or have held positions as Special Education Teachers, District Resource Teachers, District Autism Consulting Teachers, and District Special Education Resource Teachers within the Department of Education.  Our tutors have master’s degrees in education and are Dual Certified Teachers in Regular Education and Special Education. We have over 27 years of experience in teaching with various types of learners, such as Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, ADHD, Autism, Emotional Behavior Needs, as well as students with a range of speech and language needs. To provide IEP (Individualized Education Program) services, our tutors use evidence based and researched base approach programs such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) methodologies and Orton-Gillingham approach into a step-by-step manageable process with your child. Your MICCA tutor will prepare resources to achieve individualized targets implemented by the case manager.

*In 2021-2022 school year, the number of students ages 3-21 who received EIP services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) was 7.3 million, which is 14% of all public-school students. Over 19,000 of the 7.3 million were in Hawaii state. Among these students receiving EIP services under the IDEA, 33% of students were categorized as having a specific learning disability.

Level 4: Homeschool Support

For those that choose the homeschool option, our staff at MICAA are able to create personalized curriculum that matches academic standards as our framework with in-person or online 1:1 support covering subjects such as language arts, math, science, and social studies. We will provide guidance, feedback, and evaluations on curriculum using systematic methods with an emphasis on areas where the student requires the most support. *It is the parent’s sole responsibility to abide by Hawaii’s homeschool laws.

Consultation with student’s school: $50 per hour.

A tutor will do a consultation/meeting with the students’ school/teachers and thoroughly guide the parents through the special education process with Department of Education (DOE). Through 20 years of experience, this process is a lot to process, and the information given to parents is very overwhelming. We can guide and help you through this process, advocate for your child’s rights or needs, and support and educate you in every step of the process.

SSAT Prep: $90 per hour.

The SSAT—or Secondary Schools Admissions Test—is a required entrance exam used by independent private middle and high schools throughout the U.S., created and administered by the Secondary School Admission Test Board (the other is the ISEE). There are three core competencies being assessed: Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, and Verbal Reasoning. Our tutors will create personalized test-taking strategies and provide specific feedback and recommendations about their performance for further improvement. Using systematic methods with emphasis on areas where the student requires the most support.

**One-time fee of $150.00 for SSAT materials

Student Teacher Recommendation Letters: $25 per school. This service is available for students we have worked with.

Consultation with parents: $20 per hour.

Most of our hours are with our students so it is hard to have enough time to answer all the questions that may come with educational assistance programs such as MICAA. We highly recommend providing these questions and concerns via email where we can respond in between students’ or non-business hours, but if you prefer a one-to-one meeting or phone call, we are very willing to block a time frame.

Executive Function Skills Tutoring: $90 per hour.

As essential as these skills are, we are not born with these skills such as time management, planning and prioritizing, goal setting, task initiation, and organization. Executive function is a set of cognitive processes and mental skills that include nonverbal working memory (short-term memory related to sensory and spatial information), verbal working memory (short-term memory related to speech and language), flexible thinking, problem-solving, self-control, and successfully executing goals. Struggling with executive functions can make it hard to focus, learn, follow directions, work, manage daily life, and handle emotions. Our tutors will create a personalized plan to develop and strengthen these skills.
